Reducing homelessness in Kingsport, one family at a time.
The mission of Friends and Neighbors is to reduce homelessness in Kingsport one family at a time by participating in and collaborating with every level of government, faith-based organizations, service providers, and the private sector, in order to maximize the effectiveness of the entire community in addressing the homeless problem.
Our goal is to provide and promote collaborative leadership at all levels and across all sectors, to inspire and energize the Kingsport community to commit to the reduction of homelessness.
Olan O. Jones, Eastman Credit Union’s president and CEO, stated in a recent press release that “What this organization does is extraordinary….When we heard about Friends and Neighbors and saw the passion of its founders and the results of their hard work, we realized that although they are a newly formed organization, they are focused on making a difference.” Eastman Credit Union, along with some individual contributors, has stepped forward to partner with Friends and Neighbors, Inc.
A Board of Directors of eight members from the community has been formed to guide future development.
A strategic plan is being developed to include all possibilities to reduce homelessness in Kingsport. This plan is based on the guidelines in “Opening Doors: Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness” which was produced by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness.
